Mohawk Innovation Lab — Material Technologies & Patent Platforms

Explore next-generation wear layers, EverStrand recycled fiber, smart-building integrations, and patent-backed constructions that architects can specify with numbers—not slogans.

Our innovation commitment

Mohawk Innovation Lab exists to turn material science into specification-ready floors: measurable abrasion resistance, dimensional stability under moisture vapor transmission risk, transparent VOC emissions pathways, and recycled content percentages that survive LEED worksheets. We publish limitations alongside breakthroughs—because a wear layer that ignores substrate reality is just a brochure claim.

Program pillars

Where Innovation Lab concentrates engineering effort

EverStrand fiber platforms

Recycled-content carpet fiber with independently verified stain resistance and soil release for open-office and hospitality soft surfaces—tested beyond marketing swatches.

Next-generation LVT cores

Rigid-core constructions tuned for impact resistance, print-to-emboss fidelity, and published moisture vapor transmission limits on concrete slabs.

Smart-building integrations

Pilot interfaces for sensor-friendly underlay zones and modular access panels adjacent to raised floors—scoped with OEM partners, not vaporware slides.

R&D progress

Measured advancement across active material programs

Progress bars reflect program targets used in partner briefings. They are not guarantees for every SKU—series-level TDS remains the authority for field installs.

Natural-versus-engineered debates remain central to flooring RFPs. Innovation Lab publishes side-by-side notes on abrasion resistance, moisture vapor transmission tolerance, and lifecycle maintenance so teams can choose LVT where hardwood would fail wet rooms—while still delivering authentic aesthetics. Fire resistance rating for finished floors still depends on the full assembly (underlayment, adhesive, and substrate); Mohawk discloses wear-layer and surface data but does not claim a standalone hourly rating for every SKU without a tested system stack. Prefabrication of bathroom pods can shrink on-site adhesive windows; traditional stick-built schedules keep more field flexibility—both realities inform our install guides.
